We are mindful and purposeful about
building community

Our scholarships are for students who demonstrate curiosity, creativity and community changemaker capabilities. All scholarships go towards Shad program fees and have been provided through the generosity of Shad’s donors.

Entrance scholarships

We provide entrance scholarships for the Shad program for youth with diverse lived-experiences, perspectives and strengths and are traditionally underrepresented in STEAM fields. We do this to support and inspire equity-deserving students to enter STEAM pathways and careers.

Black community

Full Scholarship

We offer 10 entrance scholarships for Black students from across Canada. These scholarships highlight students with community changemaker capabilities, those who are willing to go the mile for their community in an impactful way, and overall excellence.

Indigenous community

Full Scholarship

We offer 10 entrance scholarships for Indigenous students from across Canada. These scholarships highlight students with community changemaker capabilities, those who are willing to go the mile for their community in an impactful way, and overall excellence.

Métis Nation of Saskatchewan community

Full Scholarship

We offer 10 entrance scholarships for MN-S students from across Canada. These scholarships highlight students with community changemaker capabilities, those who are willing to go the mile for their community in an impactful way, and overall excellence.

Partner scholarships

We partner with organizations that are supporting youth in their educational journeys. These scholarships are a continuum in a pathway to post-secondary for youth committed to a STEAM and/or higher education journey.

Adventure4Change

Full Scholarship

Adventure4Change provides accessible education and learning opportunities, promotes healthy living and wellness, builds relationships and healthy communities by developing leadership skills and providing opportunities for those in the community to contribute. Shad awards three full scholarships to Adventure4Change participants.

Black Boys Code

Full Scholarship

Black Boys Code improves the future of Black youth through education in computer science and technology. Black Boys Code gives Black youth the training and tools to create their own futures and thrive in the innovation economy, and prepares them for success as tomorrow’s technology leaders and innovators. Shad awards five full scholarships to Black Boys Code participants.

Black Business And Professional Association

Full Scholarship

The BBPA addresses equity and opportunity for the Black community in business, employment, education and economic development. The BBPA advances Canada’s Black communities by delivering programs that support business and professional excellence, higher education and economic development. Shad awards two full scholarships to youth enrolled in BBPA programs.

Black Business Professional Network

Full Scholarship

The BBPN Inc. NB aims to empower Black entrepreneurs and professionals by contributing to the economic empowerment and welfare of all its members within New Brunswick and across Canada. The BBPN NB aims to find, develop, provide opportunity, and guide the Black talent pool to excel in New Brunswick. Shad awards two full scholarships to youth enrolled in BBPN Inc. NB collaborative programs

BrainSTEM Alliance

Full Scholarship

BrainSTEM Alliance is a network of ambassadors with a vision for every person to have the opportunity to be empowered by Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) Shad awards three full scholarships to BrainSTEM Alliance participants.

CanU

Full Scholarship

CanU inspires hope and confidence in the leaders of tomorrow through its out-of-school mentorship and educational enrichment program for youth in Grades 5-12. Shad awards three full scholarships to CanU competitors.

Calgary Black Chambers

Full Scholarship

The CBC strives to increase Black leadership capacity and forges opportunities for Black professionals to further their professional development and give back to their community. The CBC holds the ideal of mentorship as fundamental to its purpose and provides mentorship and scholarships for future generations. Shad awards two full scholarships to youth enrolled in CBC programs.

Canada-Wide Science Fair

Full Scholarship

500 young scientists from across Canada showcase their real-world solutions at Canada-Wide Science Fair. Shad awards three grants in the amounts of $3000, $2000 and $1000 to Canada-Wide Science Fair participants.

FIRST Robotics Canada

Full Scholarship

FIRST inspires young people to pursue studies and careers in the field of science, technology and engineering. Shad awards two full scholarships to FIRST Robotics competitors.

Future North

Full Scholarship

Future North is dedicated to improving available resources and opportunities for youth and young adults in Sudbury and Manitoulin. Shad awards a full scholarship for a student affiliated with Future North.

Imhotep's Legacy Academy (ILA)

Full Scholarship

In partnership with Dalhousie University, ILA aims to increase the representation of African Canadians in STEM careers. The program improves student success and bridges the achievement gap through real-world learning projects, skill-building, leadership development and tutoring support. Shad awards two full scholarships to ILA program participants.

Jean Augustine Centre

Full Scholarship

The Jean Augustine Centre for Young Women’s Empowerment believes that an empowered young woman can improve her life and have a positive impact on the world around her. Shad awards three full scholarships to Jean Augustine Centre participants.

League Of Innovators

Full Scholarship

League of Innovators is a national Canadian charity that empowers young people to be their own bosses in life and career. Shad awards two grants in the amount of $1,000 each to League of Innovators participants.

Lifelong Leadership Institute

Full Scholarship

Lifelong Leadership Institute (LLI) is an educational organization that provides innovative leadership development to Canadian youth of Jamaican, African-Caribbean and Black heritage. LLI helps students fulfill their personal and professional ambitions, provide inspiring leadership to their communities and country, and to make this world a better place for all. Shad awards five full scholarships to LLI participants enrolled in the Leadership By Design program.

Minerva

Full Scholarship

Runs an annual Learning to Lead weekend program for grade 11 girls to discover self, develop confidence and explore their leadership potential. Shad awards a full scholarship for an Indigenous student from the Minerva Learning to Lead program.

Pathways To Education

Full Scholarship

Pathways has 29 community locations across nine provinces. They work with youth from low-income areas to break the cycle of poverty through education. Shad awards full scholarships for Pathways students that have been accepted into the program.

The Verna J. Kirkness Science And Engineering Education Program

Full Scholarship

The Verna J. Kirkness Science and Engineering Education Program is committed to increasing the number of First Nations, Métis and Inuit students graduating from science and engineering programs in Canada. Shad awards two full scholarships for an Indigenous student from the V.J. Kirkness program.

U School

Full Scholarship

U School introduces and connects students in grades 4 through 9 from socially vulnerable, Aboriginal (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) and rural communities to the University of Alberta and to post-secondary life. Shad awards three full scholarships to former U School students.

VEX Robotics & The Robotics Education & Competition (REC)

Full Scholarship

The REC Foundation’s mission is to increase student interest and involvement in STEM by engaging students in hands-on, affordable, and sustainable robotics engineering program. VEX Robotics was designed to encourage creativity in problem solving and harness the excitement of building robots to immerse learners in STEM. Shad awards three grants in the amount of $1,000 each to VEX Robotics students.

YELL Canada

Full Scholarship

YELL Canada is a charity that partners with schools to support entrepreneurial learning. Students receive credits towards their high school graduation, and gain experiences that are invaluable for broad-based university applications and admissions. Shad awards three grants in the amount of $1,000 each to students from the YELL program.

YMCA of Three Rivers

Full Scholarship

YMCA of Three Rivers work directly with newcomer and immigrant youth, many of whom come from low-income families. Shad awards a full scholarship for a student from the YMCA newcomer youth program.

Science Fair Grants

We celebrate the ingenuity, creativity and drive of science fair participants. Shad has partnered with regional science fairs and the Canada-Wide Science Fair and provides grants towards Shad program fees to finalists.

A high scoring Intermediate project which demonstrates innovation, creativity in problem solving and explores potential community impact. The final decision is at the discretion of the CYSF directors.

Manitoba First Nations Education Resource Centre Science Fair

Prizes will be awarded to five projects (up to five enthusiastic grade 9 or 10 students) that demonstrate creativity, curiosity, and the potential to positively impact the student’s community

Manitoba Schools Science Symposium

Awarded to the top five eligible projects that demonstrate creativity, curiosity, and the potential for social impact.

PEI Science Fair

All applicants are given the opportunity to request a bursary as part of their application. It is recommended that students apply for ALL the financial supports they are eligible for.

In order to be considered for a bursary, you MUST complete the financial aid form included in the Shad program application.

Because our bursaries are needs-based, a family’s demonstrated need will be assessed based on financial information provided by a parent or guardian. A link to the necessary financial support form is available within the program application.

Financial need will NEVER impact your application status.

Though we cannot meet every request for financial support, we strive to meet as many applicant requests as we can. 1 in 3 students receive some kind of financial support to attend Shad, so don’t let costs stop you from submitting your application.
