University Scholarships
Carleton University
Two scholarships valued at $20,000 over 4 years will be awarded to outstanding students who have participated in the Shad program and are entering the first year of any undergraduate program at Carleton University.
An application is required and the applicant’s demonstrated leadership roles within their community or secondary school activities will also be considered.
Dalhousie University
Dalhousie has offered two $16,000 scholarships each year to Shad alumni since 2007. The renewable scholarships go to students with strong academic promise who have participated in the Shad program. Click here for more information.
Faculty of Engineering, Science or Business
BEST (Bergeron Entrepreneurs in Science and Technology) is a Lassonde Engineering initiative that integrates courses from the Lassonde School of Engineering, the Faculty of Science, Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business. Ten BEST Entrance awards, valued at $1,000 each, are available to outstanding Shad alumni who are entering the first year of an undergraduate degree program. Selection for the awards is based on evidence of entrepreneurial activity while at high school – students must also be admitted to their desired program. These awards are in addition to any other scholarships the student may receive from the Lassonde School of Engineering. BEST Entrance Award winners are also eligible for $100,000 of BEST Awards each year, offered to students who are participating in entrepreneurial activities (courses, experiential learning opportunities, or venture creation) while at York.

McMaster Engineering
McMaster University’s Faculty of Engineering looks forward to welcoming top Shad alumni to the #FireballFamily! We are redefining engineering education by putting students at the centre of their education. We offer more than a best-in-class degree – we offer experiences that help create global-ready, socially-aware citizens through project-based classes, flexible co-op work terms, research opportunities, and dozens of clubs and teams. The Faculty of Engineering offers four Level 1 programs: Bachelor of Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, and Integrated Biomedical Engineering & Health Sciences.

Memorial University
Three renewable scholarships are available to high school students who are current or previous participants in the Shad program. These scholarships are valued at a total of $12,000 ($3,000 per year, renewable for an additional 3 years for a total of 4 years). To be eligible and to be considered for renewal, students must be enrolled in full-time studies and have scholarship standing as defined by Memorial University. The deadline to apply is early July. Students are welcome to apply and are considered for the UNB Recognition Scholarship-Shad through the general scholarship application process. Fill out the application form attached to the admission form, and indicate your participation in Shad.
UPEI Recognition Scholarships for Shad Fellows
The University of Prince Edward Island has introduced UPEI Recognition Scholarships for Shad Fellows.
Two scholarships of $2,500 will be awarded annually to outstanding students who have participated in the Shad program at any host campus, have displayed both academic excellence and extra-curricular achievements, and are entering first-year of any undergraduate degree program at UPEI directly from high school.

University of Saskatchewan
The University of Saskatchewan offers an application fee waiver to all Shad alumni applying for admission to one of the university’s direct-entry colleges (valued at $90).
Shad alumni are considered automatically for Guaranteed Entrance Scholarships (valued up to $3,000), which are awarded based on academics. Outstanding students who have complete the Shad program are also strongly encouraged to apply for the university’s Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships, valued up to $40,000, and Competitive Entrance Awards, valued between $500-$24,000. Students should apply for admission by December 1 to have the greatest access to scholarships.

University of Waterloo
The University of Waterloo offers up to $31,000 annually in entrance scholarship awards to alumni of the Shad program who
- Applied Health Sciences: 2 at $1,000 available
- Arts: 2 at $1,000 available
- Engineering: 2 at $4,000 available
- Environment: 4 at $1,000 available
- Mathematics: 1 at $5,000 or 2 at $2,500 available
- Science: 5 at $1,000 available
The application is available between September 1 and March 31 annually.

Forum for Young Canadians
Participants interact with parliamentarians and take part in interactive simulations, debates and discussions in a week-long program that leads to a greater understanding of how democratic change occurs.

Renowned Scholarships
McCall MacBain Scholarship (for Graduate Studies)
The McCall MacBain Scholarships are Canada’s first comprehensive, leadership-driven scholarships for master’s and professional degree students. They cover tuition and fees for an eligible master’s or professional program at McGill University; a living stipend of $2,000 per month during academic terms; and a comprehensive enrichment program including mentorship, interdisciplinary learning, and global connections. Scholars will be selected for qualities easily found in Shad alumni: exceptional character, track record of community engagement, leadership potential, entrepreneurial spirit, academic strength, and intellectual curiosity. Morehead-Cain Scholarship
The Morehead-Cain Scholarship is a US undergraduate university experience without peer for top students who are courageous and inquisitive leaders. Morehead-Cain Scholars receive a full scholarship to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; freedom to choose their own course of study and declare a major at the end of the second year; four distinct summers packed with transformational experiences around the world; Discovery Fund grants for serendipitous educational opportunities; mentoring relationships with professors; and lifetime membership in a community of more than 3,000 Morehead-Cain Alumni who are ready to offer their support and guidance. Schulich Leader Scholarship
A Schulich Leader is one of 100 students who are selected each year by Schulich’s 20 partner universities to receive $100,000 or $80,000 to pursue an undergraduate degree in STEM. In addition to this large financial award, Schulich Leaders join an elite network and receive many ongoing benefits.
