Sudbury-area students accepted into Shad Canada program

Two students from Rainbow Schools have been accepted into the prestigious Shad Canada program this summer.

Shivani Iyer of Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School and Amara Wilson-Zegil of Manitoulin Secondary School will join hundreds of secondary students from across Canada to explore the exciting world of STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, and Entrepreneurship.

“Shad provides students with transformational learning and opportunities to make valuable connections,” Rainbow District School Board chief executive officer Bruce Bourget said in a release. “The program encourages personal development, strengthens skills in discovery, teamwork and creativity, and supports students as they prepare for post-secondary education.”

Students in Grades 10 and 11 with an aptitude for curiosity, excellence and resilience are accepted into the Shad program, which prepares them to take on social and economic challenges. Selection criteria include academics, extracurriculars, creativity, innovation and a commitment to excellence.
