Q: What does it mean for you to win this scholarship?

Receiving the TD scholarship meant the financial freedom to pursue personal and professionally fulfilling extracurricular, while having access to a network of inspirational people. It felt extremely rewarding to be acknowledged for my work and it motivates me to continue to grow!

Q: What do you envision yourself doing after you finish your undergraduate studies? How will your studies help you to continue to influence change in the world?

As a long-term goal, I intend to pursue a career that is intellectually stimulating, professionally rewarding, and pushes the boundaries of what is possible. Driven by a desire to make the world better through innovation, design, and technological entrepreneurship, I plan to combine my environmental stewardship and fascination with racecar engineering into a drive toward designing more energy-efficient supercars built from environmentally friendly sourced materials. As a mechanical engineering student, I carve out my desire to design, construct and test new technologies and I know studying in this environment provides me with the necessary tools to bring my inventions to the real world!

Q: How did your Shad experience influence the path you’ve chosen?

I found that the design competition environment that was present in my Shad experience led to my interest in a degree in mechanical engineering. Being able to work with mentors who were studying in areas of engineering, and listening to guest speakers present their own innovations inspired me to pursue engineering as well in hopes of seeing my own inventions come to life just like theirs had.

Q: What advice do you have for those about to enter the Shad 2023 program?

My biggest piece of advice for those entering the Shad 2023 program would be open-minded and curious! Ask lots of questions and explore areas of STEAM and entrepreneurship that you aren’t as familiar with because you may just find your newest passion.
