Shad is a month-long summer STEAM and entrepreneurship program for grade 10 and 11 students that opens doors to post-secondary pathways |
Meet Margaret Beyere, proud Shad2024 alum. Margaret spent her summer at Shad exploring the world of STEAM and entrepreneurship and discovering her passions. Listen to Margaret share her Shad experience below!
At Shad, Margaret was able to dive deeper into the scientific research that interests her and explore the ways academic knowledge can be applied in the real world.
“Shad was so eye-opening, it was just an amazing experience.”
Shad has seven campuses in Atlantic Canada: Dalhousie University, Memorial University, Mount Allison University, UNB, UPEI, Saint Mary’s University and St. Thomas University.

Shad provides office hours to support students in preparing their application. Wendy is hosting one on Google Meets. Educators, students and parents are welcome to join to listen to suggestions or ask specific questions about the Shad application.
Shad is committed to removing barriers to STEAM education and careers for equity-deserving communities. We work directly with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador to provide funding especially for Newfoundlanders and Labradorians with financial need.
Every year, students from across Canada come together on Shad campuses from coast to coast to explore their academic passions and grow their changemaker capabilities.
We caught up with Shad alum, Natalie Mitchell, from Portugal Cove, Newfoundland, who took what she learned at Shad and started an incredible community project to positively impact the lives of children with disabilities.

Each summer, Shad welcomes some remarkable recipients of the program’s Entrance Scholarships for Indigenous Students.
We heard from one such recipient, Jazmin Colombe, from Glovertown South, N.L., who spent her summer on Shad’s McMaster University campus in Ontario. At Shad, Jazmin was able to explore her interest in the medical field while growing her confidence in herself and her ability to tackle challenges big and small.
