Robert Tsushima (il/lui) a découvert Shad pour la première fois lorsque le programme est arrivé à York en 2019. Il a occupé divers rôles à Shad York et s'est engagé activement dans la vulgarisation scientifique et la participation des jeunes aux sciences. Robert a contribué à l'organisation de l'événement Science Rendezvous de York, fait partie du comité d'organisation de la foire scientifique et technologique de la région de York et a participé aux programmes d'été de sensibilisation aux sciences de York.
Robert détient un doctorat en pharmacologie de l'Université Western et a effectué des recherches postdoctorales à la Northwestern University à Chicago ainsi qu'à l'Hôpital General de Toronto. En 1998, il est devenu membre du corps professoral de l'Université de Toronto, avant de rejoindre l'Université York en 2007. Il a occupé les fonctions de doyen associé à la recherche et aux partenariats ainsi que de doyen par intérim de la Faculté des sciences, et il est actuellement directeur du Département de biologie. Ses recherches portent sur les propriétés électriques et mécaniques fondamentales du cœur et sur la façon dont celui-ci réagit au stress ischémique.
Quand il n'est pas à York, Robert adore voyager à travers le monde pour découvrir de nouvelles cultures et cuisines, et faire de nouvelles rencontres.

Artem Solovey (he/him) began his Shad journey at York in 2021 and is excited to return as Program Director for Shad York 2026. What he values most about Shad is the opportunity to learn alongside brilliant students from across Canada and around the world. Each summer, he leaves inspired by their curiosity, creativity, and willingness to tackle big challenges. The friendships, conversations, and memories formed through Shad continue to influence him long after the program ends.
Artem has a background in software and transportation engineering and currently works with the Government of Canada. Throughout his career, he has been involved in entrepreneurship, research, teaching, mentorship, and innovation, always driven by a desire to create meaningful impact. He is passionate about helping others bring ideas to life and believes that some of the best opportunities in life come from staying curious, building strong relationships, and being willing to take thoughtful risks.
Outside of work, Artem can usually be found reading books on human behaviour, leadership, and history, exploring the outdoors, volunteering as a ski patroller, or planning his next hiking and canoe trip. He is looking forward to meeting this year’s Shads and sharing an unforgettable month of learning, growth, and adventure together.
