Q: How does it feel to be named a Schulich Leader?
Being named a Schulich Leader has been a great honour and has made me feel recognized for my achievements and hard work. It fills me with excitement and pride to join a community of exceptionally driven students from across Canada, and it inspires me to leverage the global Schulich network for my dreams and ambitions.
Q: What motivates your passion for STEAM/Entrepreneurship?
I believe STEAM is one of the few fields that truly grows from everyone’s collective experience, and entrepreneurship is the medium that drives this growth. I’m motivated by the desire to add to humanity’s vast store of knowledge, so that my work will build on the progress of human civilization and help those that come after me.
Q: At Shad we are leaders in social innovation, how do you plan to use #STEAM4Good?
I’ve always been driven to address technological disparities around the world, which led me to develop a $100 cellphone-based microscope to make microscopy and basic healthcare more accessible in underfunded communities. I plan to use that platform and #STEAM4Good to bring hands-on STEM kits to underfunded schools and libraries, and to partner with local clinics to develop low-cost diagnostic tools.
Q: What lessons would you share with incoming Shads?
One lesson I’d share with incoming Shads is: don’t be afraid to reach out, ask questions, and leverage your network to the fullest. The Shad community and its alumni span the globe, so don’t hesitate to lean on us for anything.
