Q: How does it feel to be named a Schulich Leader?
Being named a Schulich Leader is a recognition of the passion I have dedicated to STEAM. It empowers me to pursue bold ideas such as organizing more technology-based events and it connects me to a community of driven changemakers who inspire me to think bigger. It is a vote of confidence in the future I want to build. It also acknowledges my commitment to making STEAM more accessible, especially for underrepresented groups, which is something I care deeply about. This recognition motivates me to continue creating opportunities so that more individuals can see themselves in STEAM.
Q: What motivates your passion for STEAM/Entrepreneurship?
My passion for STEAM and entrepreneurship comes from a desire to turn ideas into action, especially when those ideas can solve real-world problems. My interest in computer science is rooted in my love for continuous learning, logical problem-solving, and the commitment it demands. What excites me most about STEAM/entrepreneurship is the journey: the thrill of solving a difficult problem, only to face a new challenge moments later. That unpredictability and constantly evolving field fuels my curiosity and growth. But beyond the intellectual challenge, I am driven by the impact technology can have. Through organizing hackathons and participating in the FIRST Robotics Competition, I have seen how tech can empower communities and spark innovation.
Q: At Shad we are leaders in social innovation, how do you plan to use #STEAM4Good?
I plan to use #STEAM4Good by continuing to create projects and platforms that empower underrepresented voices, improve access to education, and promote sustainability. During SHAD’s DE project, I led the development of a smart composter app that used AI and computer vision to optimize composting by analyzing nutrient levels in the soil and providing recommendations, like adding eggshells to increase phosphorus, ultimately improving composting efficiency. Whether it is building apps that connect people to community resources or organizing STEAM outreach programs for youth, I am committed to using technology as a tool for equity, empowerment, and social change.
Q: What lessons would you share with incoming Shads?
One of the biggest lessons I would share with incoming Shads is to be curious, take risks, and don’t be afraid to share their voice. Shad is a place where everyone brings unique experiences to the program, and their perspective matters. Shad helped me become more confident, outspoken, and more comfortable presenting my ideas. Lean into the experience, step outside your comfort zone, and you will grow in ways you never expected.
