Shad Entrance Scholarships for Black Students – Margaret Beyere
Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am a grade 11 student from Labrador who loves to dance, cook and play volleyball. My favorite subjects are Chemistry and English, and I participate in multiple extracurriculars such as concert band, drama and student government. I love listening to music and reading in my spare time. In the future, I want to travel and try at least one extreme sport.
Q: Why do you want to participate in the Shad program/ What are you most looking forward to?
I want to participate in Shad because I’m eager to meet and learn from so many new people and try new things that I don’t have the opportunity or resources to access in my hometown. I’m very excited to see some landmarks in Halifax and participate in the various labs and workshops that are offered!
Q: What motivates or sparks your curiosity in STEAM and/or entrepreneurship?
My motivation stems from my independence. I’ve often found myself trying more challenging material in school and looking for new learning opportunities because I like to ask a lot of questions and figure things out without being given a specific set of instructions, and I believe that this program would be very engaging and stimulating for that aspect of my personality.
Q: How do you envision your future?
In the future, I would like to create something that makes a difference, even if its just a small one. Although I’m unsure of my exact path, I know that I would like to do something that allows me to continue my use of the French language, and I trust that the skills and knowledge that I’ll pick up while attending this program will help me do that.
