Sewa Ofurune had been pushing through the process of putting in scholarship applications when she was called into the office at Sussex Regional High School in April.

The Grade 12 student, whose family had moved to New Brunswick from Lagos, Nigeria, three years earlier, turned up to find her family and a UNB recruiter with the news that one of those applications had borne fruit: a $100,000 four-year scholarship to UNB Saint John sponsored by Rogers Communications.

“It was amazing, and I couldn’t help but cry because I’m finally being recognized for my hard work,” Ofurune told Brunswick News. “A burden has been lifted off my shoulders and that of my family, so I was overjoyed, to say the least.”
