Students from Toronto, Hamilton, Kitchener, Vancouver, Ottawa and Kingston to attend Shad program this July.

April 11, 2018 (TORONTO) – A new partnership between Shad and Pathways to Education Canada will see 14 youth leaders from low-income communities attend the award-winning STEAM (science, tech, engineering, arts and math) based program this summer for the first time.  The students will receive a full bursary including travel to attend the program.

“We are pleased to partner with Shad to provide 14 Pathways students with the opportunity to experience Shad’s award-winning, immersive-learning program, and are grateful for Shad’s commitment to helping us close the opportunity gap for students in low-income communities across the country,” says Sue Gillespie, President and CEO, Pathways to Education Canada. “The skills that these Pathways students will develop during their summer at Shad will support them in strengthening their core competencies and building a foundation for future success.”

“We have expanded our program to a record 16 host universities impacting more than 900 students.  We partnered with Pathways to help us find students who may not have known how accessible our program is for them and for whom Shad will hopefully serve to be transformational,” says Tim Jackson, President and CEO, Shad. He adds, “We set out to offer five full scholarships, but the quality of candidates was so high, and thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have almost tripled that.” 

There are five Pathways students from Toronto, three from Hamilton, two from Kingston, one from Ottawa, one from Vancouver, and two from Kitchener.
