(April 30, 2024 — Iqaluit, Nunavut) Last week Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation (Makigiaqta) held a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math (STEAM) camp in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut. Fourteen students from grades 9 to 12 attended the camp, gathering at the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) in the Kitikmeot community. The students came from five Nunavut communities: Cambridge Bay, Clyde River, Kugaaruk, Pangnirtung and Qikiqtarjuaq.

“Careers in STEAM are vital to the growth of Nunavut,” said Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. (NTI) President and Makigiaqta Chair Aluki Kotierk. “I am tremendously proud of the students who participated in the camp in Cambridge Bay. It is encouraging to see Nunavut students taking an interest in STEAM, and we look forward to seeing more young Inuit furthering their education in the fields and becoming a part of a brighter future for Nunavut.”
