Award goes to promising children looking to defend children’s rights and tackle urgent issues that matter most to Generation Z

Chinazam ‘Zammie’ Igwe believes that if you want to see change in the world, you have to work to make it happen.

That attitude has resulted in the 16-year-old Monctonian being selected as one of 10 Canadian recipients of The Future is NOW! Award for 2024.

The award, valued at $1,000, gives young people the chance and platform to defend children’s rights and to tackle issues such as mental health, racism and discrimination, climate change, reconciliation, and bullying.

Originally from Nigeria, Igwe moved to Moncton in 2020. She has always been passionate about education and creating more opportunities for high school students, particularly girls of colour.
