Entrance Scholarship for Students from Métis Nation of Saskatchewan – Havyk Litke

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Havyk Litke. I am 17 years old, and I come from Muscowpetung First Nation in Saskatchewan. I live and go to school in Regina. I value my education, and I like to educate others on Indigenous knowledge/history. I have danced ballet, tap and hip hop with Martin School of Baton and Dance for 13 years in a row while playing sports in elementary school. I look up to my older brother a lot for guidance and support, and I’m really family oriented.

Q: Why do you want to participate in the Shad program/What are you most looking forward to?

I want to participate in the Shad program to open the doors to more possibilities and have access to a broader set of academic subjects. I’m looking forward to meeting new people, learning new things, enjoying new experiences, and being proud of how far I have gotten in life so far.

Q: What motivates or sparks your curiosity in STEAM and/or entrepreneurship?

My motivation and curiosity in STEAM comes from my family believing that I can do something amazing in my life if I put in enough hard work, time, and believe in myself. My grandma has always been one of my main supporters by motivating me not to give up by reminding me “85% of success in life is just showing up and getting it done.”

Q: How do you envision your future?

I envision my future to include getting a good degree at university and then climbing the ladder to build a future career that I love. I don’t know what I want to study yet, but I do know that I want to set myself up for success, no matter how hard it gets. The future is always a mystery but there’s always something at the end for people who are patient and take the time to explore their passions and chase their dreams.
