Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi! My name is Barakat Oyewole. I’m a passionate and curious Grade 11 student attending Glenlawn Collegiate Institute. I am a student who loves computer science and exploring new ideas. I’m originally from Nigeria but now live in Winnipeg. I always bring energy, creativity, and determination to everything I do. I enjoy learning deeply, asking bold questions, and building things that matter!
Q: Why do you want to participate in the Shad program/What are you most looking forward to?
I’m excited to join Shad because I want to challenge myself, meet inspiring people, and grow both academically and personally. I’m especially looking forward to hands-on projects, exploring real-world problems, and learning from mentors and talented peers. Shad feels like the perfect place to dream big and turn my ideas into something meaningful.
Q: What motivates or sparks your curiosity in STEAM and/or entrepreneurship?
I’m inspired by how STEAM connects creativity with problem-solving to build real solutions for the world, and that’s what interests me the most. The idea that one’s idea can make a huge impact pushes me to keep exploring. Entrepreneurship excites me because it allows me to turn passion into action and bring change where it’s needed most.
Q: How do you envision your future?
I plan to pursue a bachelor’s degree in computer engineering. I see myself working in tech or innovation, using my skills to create tools that help people and uplift communities. I want to be a leader who not only builds new things but also helps others believe in their own power to make change. No matter where I end up, I hope to keep learning, growing, and giving back.
