Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Naja Ejesiak, and I am a grade 10 Inuk student from Iqaluit, Nunavut. In my free time, I enjoy beading and being outdoors in nature! I love swimming and I work as a lifeguard and swim instructor in my town. I also have a passion for learning and playing music in the choir and the band.
Q: Why do you want to participate in the Shad program/What are you most looking forward to?
I am excited to participate in the Shad program this summer because of all of the opportunities I will get to experience. I am looking forward to meeting new people from all across Canada and to get out of my comfort zone. I also anticipate getting a taste of what university life could be like.
Q: What motivates or sparks your curiosity in STEAM and/or entrepreneurship?
Living in a small town with limited courses, there are not many opportunities to learn about STEAM. I am good at science and math, and I’m interested in learning what STEAM is all about and the broad range of disciplines. It would be a great way to narrow my focus and direct me towards a specific path.
Q: How do you envision your future?
I am not sure what I want my future to look like, but I do know I want to dedicate my future to helping people. Despite my undecided mind, I can envision myself with a career in medical or health sciences. I will go to post-secondary in southern Canada, but Nunavut will always be home.
