Entrance Scholarship for Black Students – Osazemen Owie

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself (a few sentences that let others get to know you).

Hey, I’m Osazemen Owie. I’m sixteen years old, and I’m always exploring new ideas and experiences. Whether I’m out on the court playing basketball, catching up on Premier League matches, gaming with my friends, or deep in conversation with my family over dinner, I love being engaged and thinking creatively. I’m drawn to challenges, and I get excited by the chance to figure things out and push myself beyond what I already know.

Q: Why do you want to participate in the Shad program/What are you most looking forward to?

For me, Shad feels like more than just a program—it feels like a launchpad. I want to be surrounded by people who think big and dream even bigger. I’m really looking forward to living and learning with others who are just as passionate and curious as I am. Getting a taste of university life, diving into real-world challenges, and collaborating with students from different backgrounds—that’s the kind of environment where I know I’ll grow the most.

Q: What motivates or sparks your curiosity in STEAM and/or entrepreneurship?

I’ve always seen problems as opportunities to create something better. Science and tech give us the tools to build, and entrepreneurship gives us the mindset to bring those ideas to life. Whether I’m thinking of ways to solve everyday problems, I get excited thinking about how innovation can actually improve lives. I’m drawn to the idea of creating things that bring real value to people and communities.

Q: How do you envision your future?

In the future, I want to study at a top university where I can focus on social entrepreneurship—especially how to tackle some of society’s biggest issues. I see myself building ventures that do not just chase profit but also make a difference. I want to use innovation as a force for good, creating solutions that serve both people and the planet.
