Celebrating the Shad alum named 2023 Schulich Leaders – Luke Heras
Q: How does it feel to be named a Schulich Leader?
I feel incredibly lucky to be named a Schulich Leader and have found myself dumbfounded on many occasions still grappling with this accomplishment. I am exceptionally grateful to have received this opportunity, and the support that the foundation is able to offer me is life changing. I am absolutely ecstatic and truly can’t wait to learn more about what it means to truly be a Schulich Leader.
Q: What motivates your passion for STEAM/Entrepreneurship?
Ultimately, it is my love for problem solving that motivates my passion for work in STEAM and entrepreneurship, as it makes the complex and ever-evolving work in these fields incredibly rewarding. In addition to this, by merging the two I am not only able to solve more complex problems, but I am also able to make positive real world impacts, which further motivates me.
Q: At Shad we are leaders in social innovation, how do you plan to use #STEAM 4Good?
While I may put a lot of focus on my academics, I am still committed to social innovation. Whether that means finding ways for my studies or career to contribute to the lives of those in need, or simply being open to educating myself and others, I plan to use my academic and leadership skills to help develop not only myself, but the communities and people around me.
Q: What lessons would you share with incoming Shads?
A lesson that I would like to share with incoming Shads is to not be scared to be yourself and try new things. You never know who might become your next best friend, trusted mentor, or confidant, or what passions you might discover for yourself. And while you should certainly try to make the best out of your time at Shad, don’t take yourself too seriously either, because ultimately if you aren’t having fun, you’re probably not doing it right.
