Anisa Abduhamedova, 2026 Loran Scholar

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am an IB Diploma student who loves learning and trying new things. Outside the classroom, I enjoy playing volleyball, baking, painting, but a big part of my life is also being involved in my community. I am a part of clubs and organizations such as Green Club, Interact Club, and the Building Safer Communities Program. A lot of my experiences have involved working with others on projects and initiatives, which is something I enjoy because I like meeting new people and working in teams.

What does this scholarship mean to you?

Being a Loran scholar gives me the opportunity to be part of a really inspiring community while continuing to explore the things I am curious about. It also gives me the freedom to take on new opportunities and keep growing through different experience

What do you hope to do after you graduate, and how do you see yourself contributing to your community?

After I graduate, I hope to work on projects that combine innovation, and problem-solving to create meaningful change. I want to continue being involved in initiatives that strengthen communities, especially by making opportunities and resources more accessible. No matter what field I pursue, I hope to contribute by bringing people together, and developing practical solutions.

What did you take away from your Shad experience, and did any of those lessons come up during the Loran Scholar selection process?

One of the most valuable parts of Shad for me was working on the Design & Entrepreneurship project. It introduced me to design thinking and showed me how entrepreneurship and engineering can work together to solve real-world problems. I especially enjoyed thinking about how ideas can move beyond discussion and become something practical that can create impact.

What would you want to say to someone just starting the Shad2026 program?

Be open to every opportunity and don’t be afraid to start conversations with people you don’t know yet. One of the best parts of Shad was the people I met, the conversations I had, and everything I learned from the mentors around me. Everyone brings a different perspective and experience, so make the most of the opportunity to learn from the people around you.
