Adam Lenk, Shad2026 Entrance Scholarship for Indigenous Students

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Adam Lenk, and I am a Grade 11 French Immersion student from White Rock, British Columbia. I am interested in science, music, and technology, and a big part of my passion is also focused on advocacy and my community. I am the President of the Indigenous Student Society at my school where I advocate for Indigenous culture and identity. Just recently, I hosted our school’s first Red Dress Day in honour of the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, a school-wide event with participation from almost 1,000 students!

Why are you excited to participate in Shad? What are you most looking forward to?

I’m excited for Shad because of all the people I’ll get to meet! I’m really looking forward to connecting with students from across Canada who are just as passionate about STEM, leadership, and making a difference in their communities. I think that being around people with different experiences, ideas, and goals will be incredibly inspiring, and I believe one of the best ways to grow is to surround yourself with others who have similar ambitions as you. I can’t wait to learn and grow while building new friendships along the way!

What sparks your curiosity or interest in STEAM and/or entrepreneurship?

What sparks my curiosity in STEM is the opportunity to make a positive impact on the world. I enjoy learning how things work and using innovative solutions to solve problems, but what motivates me most is the possibility of helping people and improving lives. I want to leave the world better than how I found it, and I believe that with STEM, I can find a way to make that change.

How do you envision your future?

In the future, I envision myself pursuing a career in electrical engineering while constantly learning and growing, because I believe that no matter how old you are, there will always be new things to discover and skills to develop. I am excited to work with others who share this same passion for STEM, and I especially look forward to using science and technology to contribute to the well-being of my community!
