‘Go for it’: Timmins teen has busy summer planned

TIMMINS — A teen is spending her summer preparing for a future in engineering after receiving a full Indigenous scholarship to attend one of Canada’s leading youth innovation programs.

Audrey Henderson, who will start Grade 12 at Timmins High and Vocational School this fall, has received a roughly $9,000 summer scholarship to join the Shad Canada program at Lakehead University.

After the month-long program, she will travel to Alabama for her second year at Advanced NASA Space Camp.

For Henderson, these opportunities mean she can learn with other students who share her passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).

“I’m excited to be able to collaborate with other like-minded people who have the same work ethic and mindset as me,” she told TimminsToday.

The Shad program runs from July 5 to 31 and brings together high school students from across Canada for a month of hands-on learning, entrepreneurship and innovation.
