Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Natasha, and I’m a Grade 11 student from Manitoba. I was born and raised in Nigeria, and I’ve always been someone who loves exploring new areas of interest, opportunities, languages, and cultures. Ever since I was a child, I’ve been drawn to the idea of treating and healing people, which inspired me to want to pursue a future career in the medical field. I also enjoy expressing myself through dancing, playing the guitar, and writing songs
Q: Why do you want to participate in the Shad program/What are you most looking forward to?
Shad provides the opportunity to meet new people, connect with other Shads from across Canada, and learn more about STEAM. I look forward to challenging myself and exploring my interests in medicine and healthcare, while also gaining insight into other fields. Shad will allow me to expand my knowledge, build valuable skills, and deepen my understanding of STEAM — all of which are reasons I’m excited to participate in the program.
Q: What motivates or sparks your curiosity in STEAM and/or entrepreneurship?
My curiosity for science—especially medicine and healthcare— began when I was a kid. I used to watch movies where doctors treated and healed patients, and it fascinated me. To me, they seemed like real-life versions of Doc McStuffins back then—and honestly, they still do. STEAM also opens the door to endless opportunities and possibilities, from becoming an aerospace engineer to becoming a zoologist. It gives us the freedom to explore different paths and choose what truly interests us.
Q: How do you envision your future?
In the future, I envision myself living a fulfilling and meaningful life—leading, exploring, and continuously challenging myself to grow. I plan to pursue a career in medicine and surgery, driven by my deep passion for healthcare and my desire to make a difference in people’s lives. I see myself not only helping patients directly in the operating room but also contributing to global causes by donating to or collaborating with organizations like UNICEF. Beyond my career, I want to be someone who gives back to my community, mentors younger students, and uses my voice and experience to inspire others—especially those from underrepresented backgrounds. I also hope to travel, learn about different cultures, and stay curious about the world around me. Overall, I see myself using both my education and my personal experiences to help others, create change, and live a life of purpose.
