2026 TD Scholarship for Community Leadership – Tianyu Lin

Congratulations to a Shad2024 alum recipient of the 2026 TD Scholarship for Community Leadership: Tianyu Lin.

Read the following Q&A with Tianyu to learn more about this leader and how he hopes to make an impact on his community.

Tell us a little about yourself.

My name is Tianyu Lin, and I’m from Windsor, Ontario. I will be attending the University of Waterloo in the coming fall for Computer Science. I love meeting people and hearing the stories of all their experiences. I have a passion for problem-solving and hope to continue making a positive impact on the world around me.

What does this scholarship mean to you?

This scholarship represents a privilege to study without financial constraints, while also opening the gateway to a plethora of networking opportunities and being surrounded by individuals who share the same passion for changing the world as I do.

What do you hope to do after you graduate, and how do you see yourself contributing to your community?

I hope to build tools to better enhance the experience that students have in their educational journey. I also hope to push society to consider the growth of technology in a more careful and cautious manner.

How did your Shad experience influence the path you’ve chosen?

Shad influenced me to experiment with different leadership styles while expanding the array of lenses through which I consider a problem. The innovation project in particular taught me to carefully consider the problem I am tackling before jumping into building the first solution I have in mind.

What would you want to say to someone considering attending Shad?

It is a great way to expand your horizons. You get a taste of university life, make new connections, and develop a curiosity for the world.
