When Shad Alums Billy Truong, Mark Seeman, Katie Yu, and Sadie MacDonnell were told that they had been awarded a Loran Scholarship, one of Canada’s most prestigious and comprehensive undergraduate scholarships, they felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment and support from the Loran community.

The scholarship provides these future leaders with a $100,000 investment in their undergraduate education and access to mentorship from one of Canada’s notable leaders. These Shad alums join the community of Loran Scholars who have been recognized for their leadership, character, and service to others and their communities. A total of 114 Shad alumni have earned this honour.

We were able to connect with these outstanding youths to learn how receiving this scholarship will help them continue to have a positive impact. Billy plans to engage fully with the network of Loran mentors and learn from their experiences. Mark plans to utilize these new connections to achieve his dream of advancing medical technologies. Katie plans to continue her work in community sustainability initiatives to fight climate change. Sadie hopes to use the opportunity to continue advocating for her Indigenous community.
