Donor Spotlight

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization and Shad have partnered since 2010 to show youth how to tackle big, complex STEAM challenges.

The Nuclear Waste Management Organization and Shad Canada share a vision: empowering youth to lead with purpose; helping youth learn how to address crucial challenges via STEM; and creating a sustainable and inclusive future.

Since 2010, the NWMO have worked together to inspire, engage and encourage Shad participants to channel their intelligence, curiosity, and desire for change. Through interactive presentations that engage Shad participants hands-on in addressing a real-world, real-time issue, the NWMO has prepared youth to level up in STEM.

2010

First NWMO engagement with Shad

NWMO is one of Shad’s most active partners in their first year with Shad, bringing STEM, nuclear waste, and sustainability experts to 350 Shad participants in this pilot year

2012

Expanding program presence and impact

Presentations delivered by NWMO experts at 8 Shad programs with the launch of a Shad program in Saskatchewan.

Presentations become more interactive to dynamically engage participants in how to tackle big challenges with a STEM and sustainability lens.

2015

Milestone: close to 500 youth reached

Cumulative outreach surpasses 1,000 youth

Virtual engagement during COVID-19

NWMO agilely adapts to remote delivery, providing impactful sessions during Shad’s first virtual programs

Consistent positive participant and leader feedback

Shad participants and program leaders continue to describe NWMO’s sessions as inspiring and informative, sparking interest in the nexus of STEM, sustainability and community engagement

NWMO’s total financial contributions to Shad surpass $500,000 over 15 years supporting program development and expansion plus accessibility for all youth
