Another Shad Program success
For 40 years Shad has provided youth with hands-on experiences to explore career pathways. This year, more than 1,300 students attended our month-long program at 20 universities across the country. STEAM labs, community building and field trips were some of the highlights of the summer. Hear what Srijana Basu has to say about her Shad experience.
ShadAnywhere launched four campuses this summer to serve more than 200 youth from the comfort of their homes. This digital program offers youth career pathways and academic exploration with industry leaders from across the country. Plus, they get an immersive experience in digital literacy while making new connections with high impact peers.
STEAM & Entrepreneurship Design Challenge
In high performance teams participants tackled the question “How might we help youth in Canada adopt green energy?” They developed products, prototypes, plans and pitched their concepts to a panel of industry judges. Here are a few of the remarkable product ideas presented this year: Shad2024 Design Challenge.

This year, we extended our partnership with Canada-Wide Science Fair and awarded scholarships to six exceptional finalists for their creativity and innovation – twice as many scholarships as we awarded last year! We played an active role in all parts of the Fair, judging top projects, hosting an interactive session for educators, and running a STEAM4Good booth that invited nearly 6,000 students and teachers to imagine how they might use their knowledge of science to tackle real-world problems.
Be part of someone’s Shad story
Thanks to generous donors, Shad provides entrance scholarships, towards the Shad program fee, for youth with diverse lived-experiences, perspectives and strengths and are traditionally underrepresented in STEAM fields. We do this to support and inspire equity-deserving students to enter STEAM pathways and careers.
