The UPEI campus is located in the city of Charlottetown (population: 40,000), the vibrant provincial capital of Prince Edward Island (PEI). PEI may be Canada’s smallest province, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in heart! PEI is known for its red sandy coastline, its green rolling hills, and its reputation as a culinary and cultural destination.
Academic programs at UPEI are offered in Arts, Science, Sustainable Design Engineering, Education, Nursing, Business, and Veterinary Medicine. While there are many unique programs at UPEI, here are just a few highlights. UPEI’s new Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies brings Indigenous knowledge and ways of doing to the forefront of the University, positioning UPEI as a role model for universities in the work to achieve decolonization and benefit from Indigenous knowledge .The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) offers high-quality doctor of veterinary medicine education. The AVC features the only veterinary teaching and referral hospital east of Montreal and north of Boston and is an internationally renowned research institution. The UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation offers students and researchers the unique experience of learning climate science with an innovative design and delivery structure. Students use highly advanced technology such as drones, virtual reality, and “big data” analytics to address the issues of climate change. The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering is housed in a cutting-edge 78,000 square-foot facility. The building represents a move away from the traditional classroom and includes design studios, ideation spaces, state-of-the-art assembly labs, and a design competition centre. This building is our academic home base during the program. During Shad UPEI you’ll get to meet faculty, staff, and students from a variety of programs across campus.
UPEI is home to over 5,000 students, who are supported by over 1,000 top-notch faculty and staff. Students cite small class size and easy access to professors as top reasons for choosing UPEI. UPEI is also proud of its growing international student population: The campus welcomes and supports over 1,500 international students who come to UPEI from 98 countries, making up 30.3 % of the student population.
The faculty and staff at UPEI are looking forward to participating in Shad UPEI 2024 with all sorts of interesting and dynamic activities. There will be inspirational lectures and intriguing workshops from phenomenal people who work at UPEI or in the local community.
