Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

My name is Nishka Rai, a grade 11 student from Wood Buffalo, Alberta. I’m passionate about STEAM and was able to represent my region at the Canada Wide Science Fair twice. I’m also the Vice President of Women in Tech, where we promote STEAM learning and challenge gender stereotypes in coding. Other than my love for science, I enjoy dancing, doing speech arts, musical theatre, piano, and art.

Q: What interests you about STEAM?

I find STEAM fascinating because it allows us to explore and understand the world around us. These disciplines drive innovation, solve complex problems, and have a profound impact on our daily lives.

Q: What was your biggest takeaway from your Shad experience?

My biggest takeaway from my Shad experience has to be having the opportunity to collaborate with like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds!

Q: At Shad we are leaders in social innovation, how do you plan to use #STEAM4Good?

I plan to use #STEAM4Good by further using my STEAM knowledge and skills to address real-world challenges and make a positive impact on society through innovation, just like how we did with our design projects!

Q: What lessons would you share with incoming Shads?

I would say use the Shad experience as an opportunity to explore your interests within STEAM. It’s a chance to discover what excites you the most!
