On my second day at work, I started off checking the emails. This is the first orientation week and as interns we have reading and training material to cover. While working through the laser safety training tutorials, several employees came over to my desk to introduce themselves. On my second day, I was already beginning to feel welcome at Christie.
Later, my supervisor and I, headed over to the meeting room, where I sat through an intriguing meeting about the company’s latest products and features, I had an opportunity to grasp some new concepts and lingo. After lunch, I made my way over to the laser lab where many features of the Christie projectors were demonstrated. Walking through the lab with my new safety shoes, and projectors lying open all around me was an engaging experience; I felt like an engineer.
As a high school student, I believe that we are always taught a lot of theory but we receive very little practical applications of the knowledge we gain. However, through the project and lab work at Christie I am being given a unique opportunity to get hands on and leave positive impact – because that’s what we “Shads” do :)
