It has been around a week and a half into my internship at Nuance Communications Inc., and my time here has been indescribable. At Nuance, they are reinventing the relationship between people and speech. Their innovations in voice, natural language understanding, reasoning and systems integration come together to create more human technology. One of the things I’ve been helping work on is something called Dragon Drive. It’s a car infotainment system which is basically redesigning how drivers interact with their car. The personalized, seamless experience anticipates your needs so you can focus on what lies ahead.
In just a few days, I have learned how to develop, to code and even participated in a few international teleconferences. My time here has been nothing but fun with the inclusive environment and friendly people who encourage me to ask any questions I may have or just to chat. Being in the heart of downtown Montreal, I don’t only have access to a great view from the office but I even ran into a fellow SHAD from Carleton. Running into him made me think even more about my SHAD family (for some reason I find myself always thinking about SHAD, I think its PSSD, post-SHAD stress disorder), and he reminded me of his famous quote that was, "For all the people out there that miss their friends like I do, look at the sky because everyone lives under the same sky and there just might be another SHAD looking at it."
I am truly grateful for this opportunity and I can’t wait for what the rest of the month has in store for me at Nuance.
