It is the week 2, day 3 of interning at the 2-week long Minecraft Camp with STEAMLabs. Today, the children in my group, aged 6-9, completed their minecraft creations. Over the course of 3 days, they created a tundra town, giant robots, a rainforest jungle gym, candy land, a floating parkour city, a mansion and a fortress. The created items in minecraft, and 3D printed them.
They also created their own mods and custom NPCs. From my expertise in minecraft (gained over a period of 2 weeks), mods are used to alter the gameplay and give the player more options, while NPCs are non-playable characters that are programmed to interact with the player. It is so interesting to watch the children as they transform from players to programmers in order to increase their enjoyment of the game.
They also had the opportunity to create their own robots or work on Steve, the official Minecraft powered STEAMLabs robot. We adorned Steve, the robot, with beautiful pipe-cleaner hair.
My favorite part of the day however, was the mini SHAD lunch meetup we had, SHADs from Carleton, Western, Calgary, Saskatchewan, UNB, McMaster, and Dalhousie all got together!
