Hello my name is Afif, nice to meet you” were the first words I greeted Melicent, my boss, with on a bright and early Monday morning in early August. I remember feeling excited, yet there was a faint sensation of nervousness inside of me, to start my first ever 9-5 job. I was dressed up all professional and ready to embark on a new journey, one which would take me two hours of transportation to arrive, but in the end never regret.
After all, “no regrets” was a lesson you all learned from SHAD, so why not start to apply it in real life?
Afif and Melicent
I’ve always wanted my first job to be at a company in which employees are welcoming, working is fun and finally one in which I would have an influential boss (Melicent, who is a former SHAD!). Luckily, all these criteria were met at the company where I’m doing my internship, Medtronic. Medtronic plc. is one of the largest medical technology companies in the world; a company that strives to help millions of people worldwide changes the face of chronic disease.
You might be wondering, what my role is at this prestigious company. Well, in simple terms, I have been working on creating animated videos to help employees understand important policies in a fun way, a Public Relations campaign for a new product launch, and assisting with some Government Relations work.
It is sad to know that today marks the halfway point of my journey at Medtronic and, knowing how quickly time flies by,; I’ll definitely miss working in the corporate environment. I would like to extend a warm thank you to Melicent and all the employees, who have made this an unforgettable journey.
