Today was the first full day of SHAD. And boy was it a busy one. I think I speak on behalf of many of us in saying I am ready for my bed tonight. I am still transitioning into my new home for the month, and I am already loving it.
The first day was long and exhausting, like much more to come. It was interesting. Intriguing. And highly engaging. Most importantly it was FUN! Today we started earlier than I usually get up while on summer vacay...at 7:30. But it was cool because breakfast was phenomenal, and there was COFFEE! The first day was jam packed. Right after breakfast, we had our first lecture which was very nice. It involved lots of deep thinking and self-reflection; like why we are all here at SHAD, what we are good at, what type of mindset we should have….and most importantly that it is OK to fail. Albert Einstein said, “Anyone who has never made a mistake has never tried anything new.” This goes to show that in order to get the best experience out of SHAD we all need to leave our egos at the door and be fearless in the face of failure.
After lunch, we had a fun innovation activity designing wallets and “alarm clocks” followed by a much-needed recreation period. Then I had tacos for supper and had a great conversation with Michael and Ange. It’s pretty cool how fast you meet and become friends with new people. The evening was filled with wonderful performances where the whole group sang along or laughed; it was nice. To cap the evening we sang happy birthday to Vivian and had some cake! I hope you all are enjoying this as much as I am.
