The definition of “summer break” was completely redefined for me this year. As if the memories I brought home to Toronto was not enough, I was faced with yet another opportunity. Optimistic with the bonds I had created with fellow Shads at Carleton University, I was eager to find out whom I would be working with during my internship at Toronto SickKids Hospital.
My SHAD internship was unique in the respect that I had the freedom to create a plethora of opportunities through my role. After an interview the team comprised of 4 different individuals who I can say I am very happy to have met. The company we worked for was called Medmodo Labs, which is a company that improves the health of others through mobile technology. While I knew a bit about coding, my actual role was to develop the business and manage our relations. This comprised of advertising to people in the streets of downtown Toronto, creating another excruciatingly long business plan, writing research papers and setting up presentations. I was introduced to several new adventures, funny memories and cool people—just like SHAD.
While most might spend the last paragraph finalizing their thoughts of an end to an internship, I do not carry that burden. My internship was not only exciting, but I was given the chance to continue to work with the team during the school year. I look forward to continue learning, bonding, and supporting the health industry!
