For the month of August, I have the pleasure of being an intern at Pearson College in BC.
I have been there for about a week, I have the joy of staying in residence on their beautiful campus. Pearson College is one of the 15 UWC across the world. So far my job as an intern has varied though very much each day, sometimes I am helping sell the Pearson College merchandise to the PSYL (Pearson seminar of youth leadership) camp or I am helping out in the library. On Friday, I had a fun time installing a new telescope up at the Obersvatory. In the following weeks, I shall be participating in quite a few different tasks, including working in the laboratories.
This coming week, I am planning on heading out in one of the boats to Race Rocks where lots of their marine research is completed. This weekend (the 6th-7th) there is a huge 10 year alumni reunion, so I have been able to meet some very interesting people. In the upcoming weeks I believe we have a couple of weddings that we are hosting along with a few summer camps. The PSYL summer camp just finished this Saturday. It reminded me a bit of SHAD with all the tearful goodbyes.
Since my internship is 8:30am- 4:30pm Monday to Fridays, I have the opportunity to enjoy the evenings and weekends on campus. There are many inviting trails and paths on campus and even more that lead off campus into Metchosin. During weekends, I also manage to head off campus to go and train and ride my horse who is still giving me the “silent treatment” since I was away for the whole of July at SHAD. I am sure he will get over it soon though.
My internship will be ending on the 26th of August since I need to have some time to prepare for university. I will be attending Simon Fraser University (SFU) in September, I have been accepted into their Biomedical Physiology program. I shall be staying in residence since I live on Vancouver Island and SFU is on the mainland.
(I am not sure if you can see it, but at this moment, we had a huge algae bloom and the bay looks red. It’s a beautiful view!)
This has been a summer that I shall never forget, first meeting the amazing people at SHAD Lakehead for July, and then an internship at Pearson College for August, and finally heading off to university! Who could have asked for a more special, memorable summer?
