Over the course of this month, I have been participating in a volunteer internship at Bombardier, the world's leading manufacturer of both planes and trains. My experience has been incredible and with one more week left, I am looking forward to what is in-store.
During my internship, I have been working with the Design for Environment team at Bombardier Transportation. The main objective for the Design for Environment team is to develop vehicles that contribute to a sustainable society. They accomplish this by minimizing the environmental impact during a vehicle's whole lifecycle.
For the past month, I have been able to contribute work to multiple of Bombardier's contracts. I have been able to learn so much about sustainable design and it's process. Today at Bombardier, I updated part statuses concerning what each part was composed of. In addition, I entered whether the part passed Design for Environment, flammability, smoke emission, and toxicity tests. I also compiled a derogation for substances that are contained within particular components of the vehicles.
As a whole, this month has been an invaluable experience. I have been able to work with many engineers and learn about what they must consider when designing a sustainable vehicle. being able to gain a real experience in the workforce has opened many future career prospects to me. This has definitely been an enlightening opportunity that I will take with me into the future.
