This August, I have the pleasure of being an intern at Hatch’s Vancouver office. Hatch is an engineering consulting firm that works to design equipment and solutions for clients worldwide.
After rolling into work today on SHAD time (At SHAD Carleton that means being everywhere at least five minutes early to every event or meeting) at 9am, I met with a project manager to discuss a project that she is currently working on. We discussed the ins and outs of conference calls with international clients and she was very kind to explain some of the more confusing jargon that she included in her meeting minutes for a meeting that happened yesterday.
Hatch takes safety very seriously on paper and in practice. Every Wednesday morning at 10am, the entire floor congregates into a huddle and one staff member presents a topic on safety. The topic presented today was “How to protect your home while on vacation.” After a brief discussion, we all returned to our work. Soon after, a client called and I was allowed to sit in on an international business call! So many exciting things have already happened to me at Hatch and it is only Day 2. I look forward to the coming month and feel very lucky to be a part of the SHAD August Internship program.
