Upon receiving my internship offer from The Foundation for Student Science and Technology (FSST), I felt excited and nervous. By accepting this internship, I was certain to gain a unique set of experiences and encounter new challenges.
Like my first day at SHAD, I was curious of what the next 31 days of my internship would be. Fortunately, I was accompanied by another SHAD intern. We soon established close relationships with other FSST employees. Their patience and dedication made my time at the organization a transformational experience.
The FSST is a national non-profit organization which connects passionate high school students to academics and professionals in the same scientific field. Students are also encouraged to apply for a chance to publish their work in the FSST’s Journal of Student Science and Technology. As an intern, I was tasked with connecting students to mentors and managing the organization's database. Not only did I learn various business skills, I also had the chance to attend events at Ryerson University and Hamilton Health Sciences.
Words cannot explain the wonderful month I had with the FSST. I will continue to utilize the skills and work habits I have learned from this unique experience.
