The first two weeks of my internship at Microsemi have been an amazing learning experience. The office environment is a first for me, but I have now grown accustomed to navigating the sea of cubicles in addition to working in my own. I’ve also worked on a few technical tasks in the lab; however, my main focus has been in the program management side.
My primary task has been to help implement a new risk assessment system that would help teams analyze the risks predicted and lessons learned over the course of a project. I have been creating a spreadsheet that would present all of the information in an organized format. This task is really interesting because I am challenged to think logically about how the data should be compared.
Today I attended a meeting where my work was used to help discuss and reflect upon the most recent project that had finished. This helped me pinpoint some of the key issues with the current risk assessment system that I should try to improve upon.
Overall, I have learned a lot in these two weeks about the importance of program management in a workplace. This internship has been a valuable experience and I’m looking forward to learning more in the next few weeks.
