So we've all officially been at SHAD for a whole week, and what a week it's been here in Calgary. And what better way to end our first week then with a camping trip? Today we packed up from our weekend camping and headed back to the University of Calgary. It started early for many of us, as some of the Shads decided to wake up around 5am to get a glimpse of the sun rising over the mountains, which was truly a breathtaking sight.
Soon after, us who weren't up at sunrise were woken up so we could cook our breakfast, which consisted of Oatmeal and strangely enough, Hotdogs(???). After we ate, we were split into teams and participated in an intense game of capture the flag, where almost the whole campground was fair game. Soon enough, it was time to pack up, but not before we were given some time to find a secluded spot and meditate on both our weekend here and the upcoming weeks. It felt as we had just arrived at the campsite, and yet we were already loading our belongings back into a bus to head to campus. In some cases, a bus trip may seem like a dull moment in the crazy roller coaster that is SHAD, but that was not the case with ours. The bus trip back was filled with tons of singing and bonding moments.
Before long our bus ride was over and we were back at campus. Many of us warmly embraced our showers and bathrooms, happy to be back to civilization. The rest of the day was mostly spent relaxing and catching our breaths after such a wild weekend. The day came to a close with us eating a snack and gathering up to watch Pixar's "Inside Out" before we all retreated to our much-missed beds for some needed rest. Only a week in, and so many memories and bonds already made, and many more to come in the weeks to come!
