The first week of SHAD UNB has flown by. On July 2nd the SHADs arrived at the campus and some may have felt uncomfortable in their unfamiliar, yet beautiful surroundings. The first day helped break the ice when the SHADs participated in leadership activities and challenges, such as working in pairs to design intricate structures with only two fingers and cubes. During the problem solving lecture, the SHADs were asked to work in groups to calculate the number of jelly beans in a cylindrical container. The SHADs made use of the breaks and free time playing pool, cards and getting to know one another. The leadership and community building activities continued throughout the week, and the EP theme and groups were introduced. All the SHADs were eager to work in their groups to come up with pragmatic and innovative ideas. The UNB team has not only been exercising their brains, but they have been keeping fit during the morning fitness classes, such a the most popular Zumba and pilate classes. The SHADs trekked to the UNB Saint John campus and passed an enjoyable couple days in St. Andrews and the Huntsman Marine Science Centre. The group finished off the busy week and their road trip with a stop at the beach where they intermittently ate barbecued corn and hot dogs, played in the water, shared laughs, and played games of volleyball. One week has passed and the SHADs don't want to be found anywhere other than SHAD UNB!
