SHAD UBC’s 7th day was filled with the warmth of campfires and friendships alike. Just like the first day at Camp Latona, the warm staff welcomed us in the morning with as much enthusiasm as our own SHAD staff, and made us some of the best potatoes we’ve ever had.
After our stomachs were filled with delicious food, our minds filled with anticipation for the events to come, which included more fun team-building activities such as high ropes, kayaking, and beach volleyball. We were also given “free wharf time”, or in other words, an opportunity to do any water-related activities of our choice, whether that be paddle boarding or taking photos for Instagram.
After an amazing dinner seasoned with love and soys, we played various games, ranging from those requiring extreme facial muscle control to those requiring vigorous body movement. Another highlight was the anonymous sharing of heartfelt statements of appreciation which brought us even closer together as a community. This theme of appreciation carried on into our second campfire, in which each SHAD expressed gratitude to those who had helped or touched us. Finally, we ended off the evening with some singing and s’mores, and headed back to our cabins thankful for the brilliant view and the amazing opportunity to be present with 59 other exceptional youth.
