Day 6 began as another exciting mystery at SHAD Memorial. I jumped out of bed ready for the morning rec of the day—Highland dancing taught by a fellow SHAD. Although I’ve never been very talented at dancing, I was extremely excited to try something new and I enjoyed it even more than I expected.
Once we finished our breakfast, we ventured to the Bruneau centre where we listened to engaging and informative lectures regarding themes of films, and the Indigenous peoples in Canada. Then we had lunch, and afterwards I took part in an interactive seminar about Mathematical Logic where we discussed mathematical statements and paradoxes. When the seminar was concluded, I was able to experience a little bit of Jamaican dance in our afternoon recreation, and the energy in that room was incredible!
To conclude the night after dinner, we went to the landing where we did an Arctic Survival game, and put together a SHADow puppet show. The theme—The Perils of Social Media—had SHAD’s creating unique skits varying from jokes about mother’s using social media to elaborate impersonations of the staff at our campus. When I finally got back to my room, I thought to myself: today was yet another amazing day.
Since arriving, the SHAD community has been so welcoming and supportive which has made the learning experience so far, much more desirable than I’ve ever thought possible. Everyday has held exciting unique activities, and I’m excited to see what the next few weeks have in store!
