Wow! It’s been quite the journey. From a 5-hour flight, to a never-ending day of inspiration and opportunity, the SHAD experience has been nothing short of perfection. My first impressions were pure amazement; the flight over the Rockies had me glued to the window the whole time. As the day continued I met 58 of the most like-minded and inspirational students through countless first day activities, but I’m sorry to say I haven’t yet learned all their names.
Hailing from Kingston, Ontario, the University of British Columbia is quite different from the small town I’ve grown up in; and yet I already feel like I’ve been integrated not only into the UBC family but the SHAD family too. The gorgeous views continued throughout the second day as we walked through UBC’s rose garden and took photos for each of our Instagram pages.
Finally, today the focus of almost our whole month at SHAD, the house project, was introduced and hundreds of diverse, unique and innovative ideas are flying. The opening days of SHAD definitely did not disappoint, and I’m sure the rest of the month will continue to bring surprises.
