My first day at SHAD! After months of waiting and connecting with other fellows on social media, I finally met them in reality. Needless to say, the moment I stepped out of the car, I knew SHAD was for me. Kingsley welcomed me with the brightest smile and somehow, he knew my name before I even introduced myself!?
We got to know each other shortly before dinner by playing “The West Wind Blows” and it was brutally funny! Everyone realized I was the only person who was 5 feet and they all clapped and cheered for me. But the most memorable activity was when we sat by the fireplace, completely silent, and one by one, standing up thanking the people who had positively influenced our lives. Sometimes, we took our loved ones for granted and it was so meaningful to be able to have that heart-to-heart conversation with everyone in SHAD.
“Alright guys! Your lights must be off by 11:30!”
11:30? The last time I slept this early was Stone Age! My roommate Jenny and I hurriedly took our shower, unpacked our suitcases and jumped right into bed. That was one of the best sleep I had ever gotten and I hadn’t felt this eager for so long. And you know what the best thing was? SHAD was just beginning.
