Today marked exactly two weeks since we arrived at SHAD Carleton, and I am still having a hard time believing it! At the same time, it seems like just a blink of the eye since I arrived here, but when I look around at my SHAD family, it seems like I have known them for a very long time.
In the morning, we had free time. A big group of SHADs took a bus to the famous Byward Market in downtown Ottawa. Here, we went souvenir shopping at the Rideau Centre, and even had time to have some very tasty Beavertails.
In the afternoon, we did a very fun athletics rotation involving ultimate Frisbee, swimming, and fencing.
In the evening, we did some very meaningful group exercises. In one of them, we laid down a large tarp and wrote on sticky-notes what was causing us stress. One of the staff members read out a few of the sticky-notes to show how many SHADs were not alone in how they were feeling. We then flipped the tarp over, and ‘overcame our stress’.
In another group activity, we formed a circle with our house members. We passed a ball of yarn around, each time giving a compliment to whom we were passing to. At the end, we had a wonderful web of trust.
Tomorrow, each house will be revealing their DE Project. I am very excited to see the brilliant ideas that each house has come up with!
