This Thursday morning we woke up a bit early so that we could have time to get across campus to the kinesiology building. There we did an interesting test to study a person’s maximum oxygen consumption.
Then, we went into a lecture hall and learned how to apply the science to this test so we could determine exactly what chemical reactions were happening in what part of the body. After the lecture, we went to the Wave for lunch where we had Italian food. We continued to the engineering building. There, we had a challenge to make the most storm-proof roof and we would later test it in the Western University wind tunnel to determine who made the best roof. The two winners won a paid research internship with Professor Greg Kopp. The competition was lots of fun. We also learned how real-life buildings were scaled and tested in a wind tunnel.
We went back to the dorms where we met President and CEO of SHAD, Tim Jackson. He showed us some magic tricks. Then, we did our project pitches and received some constructive criticism. It was a enriching experience and definitely a highlight of SHAD so far.
