After an amazing month studying STEAM related topics at Dalhousie with a great group of students, I thought that nothing could top that. However, I had yet to start my internship at the distinguished engineering firm H.H. Angus & Associates Ltd.
With over 90 years of engineering excellence, H.H. Angus is a great contributor to the engineering and building services community, and has achieved many engineering firsts. The past two weeks have been a truly incredible, eye-opening experience. On my first day I was received into a welcoming environment, and was even introduced to President and CEO, Harry Angus, himself! So far I have completed a wide array of tasks, each one teaching me valuable skills. I have had the opportunity to work in CAD, placing everything from lights to CCTV cameras in virtual hospital rooms. This internship position is vey rewarding, because I know that what I do will ultimately have an affect on real patients. I have also been exposed to the project management aspect of the engineering process through creating schedules, marking up floor plans, and ensuring all tasks are accounted for. My most recent project has been to create a company-wide template for a Statement of Work document. It’s very exciting to know that my work will have a lasting impact on the company!
My time at H.H. Angus has been exceptional, and has allowed me to grow and experience my passion for engineering first hand in a work place environment. I am deeply honoured to be the SHAD intern at H. H. Angus, and I am also very thankful to SHAD for giving me this fantastic opportunity!
