Following the July SHAD program, students can compete for a volunteer work experience with a SHAD supporter organization, to put their new knowledge into action for the rest of the summer or beyond.
SHAD facilitates two types of internships:
Volunteer internships for current-year participants in August, following their SHAD campus experience
Paid internships for SHAD alumni in university, usually 4 months from May-August to correspond with the summer term
August internships are four to six-week volunteer opportunities with large and small organizations, designed to complement the SHAD campus experience. These placements are an excellent opportunity for new SHADs to gain exposure to the world of business, add skills to their resumes, and build their network of contacts for future summer, co-op and full-time roles. Some companies may offer a small honorarium/stipend at completion of the internship.
Key elements of volunteer internships include:
Volunteer internships are not guaranteed to all participants. Students interested in a volunteer internship compete for the opportunity.
Participation is optional, but internships are encouraged as a valuable complement to the SHAD month on campus.
Internships are usually in a participant’s home city or within reasonable commuting distance. Internships are not based in the city where each individual attended SHAD.
Internships typically begin the week after the SHAD program ends, and continue until the start of school.
